Cultivating Better Tomorrows reshapes the dynamics of performing arts communities to produce environments where all artists can thrive. Created for students and educators, we provide engaging services to organizations of all sizes.
This online course supports dance educators in understanding the role culture plays in creating welcoming spaces. We will focus on building better relationships by ensuring our teaching is responsive to diverse student needs. As we incorporate insights from dance educators, we will begin to fully appreciate the importance of our impact in the studio. By being open to cultures that are different from our own, we will be able to provide the best education to our students.
Objectives:
Topics that will be covered include:
“As the dance landscape continues to change, it is important for educators of all levels of experience to create healthy, welcoming environments for dancers to thrive in. This course provides invaluable insights into how to do just that.”

Although we cannot dismantle racism in one session, we can begin to define its foundation and explore how it affects the students we reach. We will learn to develop an anti-racist lens in our communities through discussion and application highlighting Anti-Blackness. This frame of reference will serve as the catalyst to provide exceptional experiences for all.
Timeline: At the conclusion of the spring semester, in preparation for the upcoming fall semester.
After we have developed shared understandings through “Defining an Anti-Racist Learning Environment” we will begin to focus on strategy. We will recognize structural inequities and learn how to create and foster a culture that values racial equity. By examining current policies, procedures, and practices, we will produce environments where all students can thrive.
Timeline: At the conclusion of the spring semester, in preparation for the upcoming fall semester.
In the first two sessions we acknowledge how racist systems and values harm our work places. In “Sustaining an Anti-Racist Learning Environment” we will address common offenses, the impact of individual actions, and how positive change can be achieved. By integrating our anti-racist lens into our daily activities we can radically transform our environments.
Timeline: At the conclusion of the spring semester, in preparation for the upcoming fall semester.
We invite your students and staff to a guided conversation centered in contributing to a positive and welcoming environment. We will discuss what you can accomplish as individuals, and how the organization can support everyone moving forward. This session will give all participants a chance to connect and acknowledge that this work will be continued together.
Timeline: At the start of the fall semester.
Community Circles provide a welcoming space for all members of the community to listen and express emotions without fear of judgement. Under the guidance of trained facilitators, participants can begin to understand the perspectives of others and develop deeper connections. Circles lift up what unites us rather than what divides us while discovering, respecting, and honoring the unique experiences of each person.
Timeline: Mid-Year, January or February
Your organization is working hard to support and implement positive change for a more inclusive environment for all. As we reflect on the past year, we will focus on how everyone has contributed to making the classroom a welcoming environment and how we can do even better in the year to come.
Timeline: At the conclusion of the spring semester.
