Demystifying DEI

CULTURAL AWARENESS IN DANCE

CULTURAL AWARENESS IN DANCE

Demystifying DEI will heighten your awareness of the barriers that prevent us from sustaining diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace cultures. Through our exploration of the terms DEI, intentional listening, and purposeful reflection, you will leave with a deeper understanding of how your individual contribution to your workplace impacts the organization as a whole.

Understanding the role culture plays in creating welcoming spaces can ensure our organization is responsive to diverse needs. By being open to cultures that are different from our own, we will be able to provide the best environment for all.

Diversity in Dance

CULTURAL AWARENESS IN DANCE

3-part anti-racism series

We invite all members of your studio (students, parents/guardians, teachers, and staff) to participate in a guided conversation about diversity in dance. We’ll discuss what you can accomplish as individuals, and how your studio can support you moving forward in your diversity journey. This session will give all members of the community a chance to be heard and acknowledge that this work will be continued together.

3-part anti-racism series

3-part anti-racism series

3-part anti-racism series

We cannot dismantle racism in one series but we can begin to understand its impact on our environments. First, we will define relevant terms and explore the development of an anti-racist lens. We then move to recognizing structural inequities and learn how to create and foster a culture that values racial equity. Lastly, we will address common offenses, the impact of individual actions, and examine how positive change can be achieved.

Supporting City Classrooms

3-part anti-racism series

Supporting City Classrooms

As educators, we have a tremendous responsibility. In addition to creating curricula and fulfilling objectives, we have to create a unique environment within a school's ecosystem. This task is difficult alone, but the difficulty is increased in a large metropolitan setting. We will provide resources and support, rooted in DEI, as we address the challenges and successes of teaching students. These tactical resources can be applied to the classroom so you can thrive as an educator.

microaggressions

3-part anti-racism series

Supporting City Classrooms

Let’s talk about microaggressions. They are found in our daily conversations and in our work environment. Many times they are not meant to be hurtful, but they negatively impact many identities. We will review what microaggressions are, understand our relationship with them, and leave with a better understanding of how to eliminate them.

Community Circles

Guided conversations

Guided conversations

Community Circles provide a welcoming space to listen and express emotions without fear of judgment. Under the guidance of facilitators, participants can begin to understand the perspectives of others and develop deeper connections to their community. Circles lift up what unites us rather than what divides us while discovering, respecting, and honoring the unique experiences of each person.

Guided conversations

Guided conversations can touch on a myriad of subjects including historical inequities and their lasting effects, current company culture, and company goals. Under the guidance of facilitators, participants will discuss what they can accomplish as individuals, and how the organization can support them moving forward on their journey. These sessions will give all participants a chance to connect, be heard, and acknowledge that this work will be continued together.
